Does anyone know why WIR scheduled all of their double-weekends, and Dragsters/Doorslammers Races, on weekends that overlap with Great Lakes Dragaway? The car count will probably not increase if there are other tracks to race at, that are only 150 miles away. Maybe someone knows why they did this????

Thank you.

The car counts will go up due to the number of 9 second cars that will not (nhra) certify.......any way i like having 2 chances not to buy back in!!!!!!!!!plus the camp fire should be a blast if everyone stays for day 2.....

There were several reasons for the addition of Sundays for the Dragsters and Doorslammers championship races.
This started two years ago when many racers complained of the cost of tow fuel and expenses getting to the track. Many wanted Saturday and Sunday races like other tracks so expenses would be minimised. I went to Roger with that information. Second, we wanted a race identity of our own. Roger was kind enough to make arrangements to accomodated your expense issue and our identity issue. He proposed several weekend and some conflicted with other races elsewhere. We settled on the weekend chosen. Great Lakes did not have their schedule out yet. You will never be able schedule around all tracks; after all we have five or more tracks within five hours. It was just coincedence it happened that way. Sorry. Most responses we have gotten back were positive and appreciative and did not conflict.

As for racers coming from out of the area, we have heard from numerous racers, and many do not want to change to NHRA and are looking for another track to race at and are strongly considering WIR because of the double weekends, additional payouts, single trips and the possibility of lowering the E.T. for Hot Rod, similar to other tracks so they can run quicker without a Box.

I think the question should be, Why did great lakes schedule races that overlap with the WIR schedule?

I have hoped for double weekends for many years. It wasnt a big deal when I lived in the Fox Valley but now living on the other side of the state it will give me an opportunity to come over a few times. Before it was just too expensive to tow all the way there, for one night, when Byron and GLD was the same distance and offered two days of racing.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens....it just kind of seems silly that these tracks don't call one another and coordinate these overlaps and elimanate them. I know Byron and the grove have not overlapped in the last two years, and it seems to have worked out great for both of them.

I know Byron and GLD used to work their schedules out. Im sure they still do as they draw many of the same chi-town cars for each.

WIR has always run a very busy schedule, so maybe GLD since they have always clashed didnt even bother.

I sure hope to make a weekend race, it was always one thing that held me from going there more often. But my parents were in the area at the time, now they live in Texas so didnt have much reason to get to the fox valley..... this will be one of them.

Next time you make it to WIR you can pick up your pit sign that has been stashed behind the food building for the last 7 years.

Who really cares what the grove does anyway? Racing is a hobby for us, it's a business for Roger. I am quite certain it would be a very cold day in he77 before he'd bump a race here to co-incide with another track, unless it was for special circumstances.

As legendary as you may think you are, I have no interest in a vintage piece of Kevin Garceau's racing history.

I agree that racing is a hobby for all of us, although these days it has to be about the money or all of us wouldn't be doing it. You'd think the best 'business' decision Roger could make would not be overlap races with other tracks. If he doesn't overlap races, he gets more cars, and last time I checked if the car count goes up it puts more money in Roger's pocket. I guess i'm not sure what your really trying to say '89 firebird'.

Hell I never considered it vintage. Just thought if someone could use it, have it.

Well deramie15, it's not real hard to figure out. If the dump, oops, I mean the grove is racing the same weekend we are, do you really think any of the weekly racers we have are going to bail on WIR and go down there? I can give you three names of guys that do go down there chasing the money, that's it. Three guys. Now, you tell me. Even if Roger isn't drawing a higher # of cars because another track is running, do you think he's going to "not" have a race here that night because he isn't going to get a "higher count"? No, it doesn't work that way in buisness. If Roger has no race any given night, he has no green backs coming in that night at all then either. NO RCAE= NO $$$$$!!!!! For Roger to draw more cars, it would take changes in a few different areas. Not scheduling. If you pay-they will come to play!! And if your doing this sport for the cash, you must be pretty dam good!!
